met monkey for dinner in town.. i'm starting to get sick of town.. 1 week go at least twice.. haha.. but oh well, if i get to shop, not bad liaoz la..

intended to get my bag and shoes today.. only end up buying wallet for monkey..

cos his current wallet really stinks like shite.. hahaha.. can smell it from miles away..

after shoppin for awhile, hungry la! dinner at paragon..

the soba restaurant opposite spageddies.. haha i duno wat's the name of this place tho.. forgot to check it out..

i have always loved cha soba.. but i never knew how it was made, where it came from yada yada yada.. hahah

i had set A, which included fish cutlet, teriyaki chicken, salmon sashimi and choice of soba or udon warm or chilled..

of cos i chose chilled soba! my favorite! hahaha

monkey was too hungry to think properly.. so he just took the most expensive set.. which included appetizer, tenpura, chawanmushi, sahimi, braised duck, sushi, choice of soba or udon warm or chilled and choice of dessert..

Soba was a staple for Japanese people 400 years ago, in the middle of Edo era. After a number of civl wars, Edo was reconstructed, it's culture and economy revitalized. People in the Edo era tied their hair "Chonmage-style" (Samurai style) and carried swords. Soba was popular among the hardworking craftsmen, as it was considered nutritious and convenient. It became a trend to stop by a Soba stall, eat quickly, and get back to work - just like today's fast food joints.

there are 3 main types of soba, seiro-mono which is cold soba dipped into thick broth.. the next is bukkake-mono which is cold soba in broth. finally, tane-mono which is hot soupy soba with assorted ingredients.

(heh i ripped the above off the piece of paper on every table in the restaurant)

not bad rite.. got to learn something about the food i ate! haha..

the soba here tasted better than most of the places i tried previously.. however, the side dish was not as good.. the braised duck even tasted raw to me..

so the next time you wanna try good soba.. can come to this place.. just order the normal soba, the serving is huge.. the sets are not worth the price la..

i jus started uploading videos onto youtube recently.. haha so fun!!

this was my tepanyaki dinner sometime ago, the chef frying rice! hahahaha
